A couple paragraphs from “Confessions of a Gender Defender” which was written by a therapist who specializes in gender issues.

“Few things are as devastating to parents as learning that their child is a transsexual. The narcissistic injury in having a child who wants to change genders is beyond description. Parents can accept a child who is a criminal more easily than a child who is transgendered. Our society reinforces this intolerance by constantly bombarding us with images of the transsexual as bizarre, marginal deviate with multiple pathologies. We are witness, almost on a daily basis, to a media barrage of unparalleled sensationalism. Over and over again, day in and day out I am asked “why would anyone want to change their sex”? It is the litmus test of insanity. The transsexual is a leper in modern society, and the parents are considered to be the breeders of the contagion.”

“It is no coincidence that the transsexual is the only minority group that has no political lobby whatsoever. They are specifically excluded from the Americans with Disabilities Act, whose express purpose is to protect individuals from discrimination. Politicians are people. They harbor the same prejudices as the constituents they represent. They echo the sentiments of the public and transform these sentiments into law. To them, the transsexual is a deranged creature, at best. At worst, the transsexual is an evil opponent of God, not worthy of consideration, let alone medical or legal protection.”

This book was written in 1996, at that time there was no legal service that specialized in Trans issues….luckily, today, there is!

It’s pretty weird when you look at the Frameline film catalogue and you notice someone you used to date is in the picture preview for a film called “Sex, Sirens & Stilettos”, which is playing at the Herbst Theatre Tuesday, June 17th.

Since New Leaf is loosing one of it's buildings due to budget cuts for Social Services, organizations are contacting me regarding setting up 12 step support meetings.

Obsessive compulsive tendencies- not only with substances...with ME too!

May 28th is my one year anniversary working at The Center.

I'm not sure how I want to celebrate, other than with a vacation (that I simply can NOT take- at least not until after Pride month).
I guess it would be rewarding if I knew I would receive some sort of rate increase...but I know that is out of the question as our financial situation is quite challenging at this time...

One whole year of my life- spent sitting behind this computer- clicking away...
