We had a nice "mini-vacation" to Lake Shasta this past weekend.

We stayed in a cabin on the Lake and had wonderful dinners both nights. Our days were filled with visits to Burney Falls, Lassen (which was closed due to snow) and our favorite the Shasta Dam and PowerPlant. Tours thru the Dam were reinstated 3 months ago, and we were excited to view this massive and powerful structure. As one of the generators was being replaced during our visit, we were fortunate enough to be able to view the inside of one of these incredible pieces of equipment.

Here are some impressive statistics about Shasta Dam.

The dam is 602 feet high.
The dam is 883 feet thick at the bottom.
The face of the dam covers 32 acres, equal to 6 football fields.
The spillway is the largest manmade waterfall in the world.
More than 6,000 men and women built Shasta Dam from 1938 to 1945, making it one of the largest construction projects at that time, and an engineering wonder.

It was a nice getaway..but it never seems long enough...
